I’m really happy to share my newest project with you today.
This is a little library I’ve set up at our local women’s community center. (It’s basically a house dedicated to women’s activities run by a local masjid.) I thought it would be a great place to share my favorite reads with others and get fabulous recommendations as well.
Featured on the shelves right now are some of my favorite books for Muslims ever: S.K. Ali’s Saints and Misfits (YA), The New Muslim’s Field Guide by Theresa Corbin and Kaighla Um Dayo (Adult Nonfiction), and Bismillah Soup by Asmaa Hussein (Picture Book).
Creating this little library was super easy to do. I bought these floating shelves and new copies of a few of my favorite books. I put book talker bookmarks in each book—they have space to fill out What did you love about this book? Who do you recommend it to? and Recommended by.
I also put bookplates (which I printed on sticker paper) in the front of each book, so that people can remember where the book came from and where it needs to return. 🙂
I put up a sign so people know what to do.
And I left extra materials there so that sisters can donate books themselves.
Thanks for reading! Let me know in the comments below if you’ve done something similar in your community or if you’d like to!
Masha Allah, this is an amazing work! May Allah reward you and all those supporting this. Aameen.
